Опис документа: Lisianski, Yuri. A Voyage round the world in the years 1803, 4, 5, & 6: performed, by order of His Imperial Majesty Alexander the First, Emperor of Russia, in the ship Neva / Y. Lisianski. – London, 1814. – vi-xxi, 388 c. : табл., портр.
The voyage of the Neva was the first Russian circumnavigation of the world. The author was deputy commander of the expedition, under Krusenstern. He gave his name to one of the Hawaiian islands, visited when the ship scraped a reef on its way from Alaska to China. This work is noted as being of importance for the history of Alaska, and particularly for the settlement at Sitka, where the Neva, temporarily under Lisiansky’s command, helped the inhabitants to fend off an attack by the Kolosh Indians and re-occupy the territory. This copy, bound in red goatskin, with gold and blind tooling, featuring the Prince of Wales Feathers badge, and maritime motifs (anchors, dolphins and tridents) in the corners of the border, formed part of the future King George IV’s library at Carlton House. One of the subject strengths in the Prince Regent’s library was travel and exploration, which may account for this superbly tooled volume on Lisiansky’s circumnavigation of the world.
