Originally published in German under the title Holzwege, this collection of texts is Heidegger's first post-war work and contains some of the major expositions of his later philosophy. Although translations of the essays have appeared individually in a variety of places, this is the first English translation to bring them together as Heidegger intended. In his work, the author makes one more attempt to answer the main question of philosophy – what is primary the spirit or the matter. Analysis of frost patterns shows that the life in the Universe is typical and appears in line with the rule “Everything or Nothing”. A human being was formed initially by another human being as well as other forms of life. The nature of female and male physhology is explained in a different way. Male is the external being of the Universe, while female is internal. The kind of difference of humanity’s ability to explore the nature, where the main role is played by existence of the full range of chemical elements in the area, where people have been developed, is explained in another way. The philosophy of the state is described from another point of view. Contradicting the theory of communism by Marx, the study on family and priority is offered to the public. The structure of the society in the frames of synergetics finds its reflection in the rule “Everything or Nothing”. While considering the issue of the role of the Church in life of the society “Sacramental study on atheism” is offered.

Die Abhandlung »Sein und Zeit« erschien zuerst Frühjahr 1927 in dem von E. Husserl herausgegebenen Jahrbuch für Phänomenologie und phänomenologische Forschung Bd. VIII und gleichzeitig als Sonderdruck. Der vorliegende, als neunte Auflage erscheinende Neudruck ist im Text unverändert, jedoch hinsichtlich der Zitate und der Interpunktion neu durchgesehen. Die Seitenzahlen des Neudruckes stimmen bis auf geringe Abweichungen mit denen der früheren Auflagen überein. Die in den bisherigen Auflagen angebrachte Kennzeichnung »Erste Hälfte« ist gestrichen. Die zweite Hälfte läßt sich nach einem Vierteljahrhundert nicht mehr anschließen, ohne daß die erste neu dargestellt würde. Deren Weg bleibt indessen auch heute noch ein notwendiger, wenn die Frage nach dem Sein unser Dasein bewegen soll.

Noam Chomsky is one of the most recognized names of our time, and in 2005 he was voted the most important public intellectual in the world today, the result of his winning 4,827 of 20,000 votes cast in a poll conducted jointly by a British monthly called Prospect and the Washingtonbased journal Foreign Policy. This result is hardly surprising; his contributions to linguistics and his theories regarding the workings of the human mind have rocked the intellectual world for more than fifty years, beginning with the critical reception of his early work on syntactic structures and his appeal to what he called the Cartesian approach to language. His crusade against the Vietnam War and his on-going critique of American foreign policy, his analyses of the Middle East and Central America, his long-standing local and international activism, and his assessment (sometimes with Edward Herman) of how media functions in contemporary society have made him a darling of political dissenters around the world who take from Chomsky both useful analysis and, moreover, a whole approach that is valuable in the struggle against oppression. He is at once a beacon to the downtrodden, and, as much of the world witnessed on September 20, 2006, from a televised speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly, he is also an inspiration to the likes of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who recommended to representatives of the governments of the world that they read Chomsky’s recent book Hegemony or Survival. Chomsky’s vicious and persistent attacks against “Stalinist” politicians, “commissar” academics, greedy members of the managerial classes, poser liberals, “scientific” Marxists, self-aggrandizing social scientists, authoritarian pedagogues, lackey media types, and fanatical sports fans has also created a vicious set of adversaries who commit remarkable amounts of effort to discredit, admonish, critique, or ignore Chomsky’s approach. In the face of it all, Chomsky stands forth, now eighty years old and yet as energetic, fearless, and courageous as ever, perhaps even more so as the years bring him new kinds of experience, optimism and disgust; he is indeed, as U2’s Bono has called him, the “rebel without a pause.” As a consequence, most everyone has strong feelings (positive and negative) about Noam Chomsky, and the effect that he has upon people extending across national, social, and institutional lines is a fascinating phenomenon, and is a remarkable testament to what an intellectual can accomplish when engaged beyond the ivory tower.

The Dictionary of Modern American Philosophers, which contains 1082 entries by over 500 authors, provides an account of philosophical thought in the United States and Canada between 1860 and the present. A dictionary for early American philosophers from the colonial period to the Civil War is in preparation. An envisioned dictionary for Latin America will encompass Mexico to complete the coverage of North America. Even after these dictionaries are all published, scholarship advancement, new information, and error detection will demand updating and enlargement in electronic format. Suggestions for additions, improvements, and corrections are welcome and may be communicated to the general editor. The chronological boundaries of the Dictionary are set by including figures who produced significant philosophical thought in the US or Canada between 1860 and the early 1960s. The birth dates of the Dictionary’s thinkers range from 1797 to 1942. The earliest works mentioned in some entries date from around 1820, and the latest are from 2005, so nearly 200 years of philosophy are covered by the Dictionary. Figures who died soon after the Civil War, such as some elderly Transcendentalists, are included even though most of their publications appeared in the 1840s or 1850s. The Dictionary includes foreign-born philosophers who spent as little as a decade in the US or Canada, provided that they made contributions to philosophy while here, such as the Europeans who fled Nazi persecution and World War II. To select those who were active by the early 1960s, the Dictionary editors considered those born by 1935 and who earned their terminal degree by 1962, although a few figures born between 1935 and 1942 who made the greatest impact on late twentieth-century philosophy are also included. The distribution of birth years of figures in the Dictionary is as follows: 209 were born between 1797 and 1860, 170 were born between 1861 and 1880, 177 were born between 1881 and 1900, 263 were born between 1901 and 1920, and 263 were born between 1921 and 1942. The philosophers of the generation born after World War II, while not lacking in impact, have not yet concluded their work and some historical distance is still required for proper judgment.

Людина з її розумом, допитливістю, особливим статусом буття постає як всесвітнє диво: адже лише їй відкрилося те, що ми називаємо буттям, лише в її розумі висвітлюється та вибудовується те, що ми називаємо світовим універсумом. Але людське буття окреслюється значною мірою як парадоксальне: людина висвітлює буття, перебуває у діалозі зі світом, сягає граничних меж Всесвіту, але вона не може осягнути найважливіше для себе: хто вона? звідки та навіщо вона прийшла в цей світ? куди прямує? Одвічні питання (саме тому, що на них немає однієї і єдиної відповіді) людина розв'язувала і розв'язуватиме завжди настільки, наскільки вона відчуває себе людиною і прагне взяти на себе відповідальність за свідоме здійснення свого життя. Філософія і постає формою свідомого вирішення найперших питань людського світоорієнтування, самоусвідомлення та самоствердження. Памфіл Данилович Юркевич (1826-1874) - найвидатніший український філософ XIX століття. Уміщені в цій книзі фундаментальні теоретичні граці П. Юркевича збереглися у рукописах його лекційних курсів.
