The results of studying the morphology and microstructure of vanadium oxide (V) formed during a ball milling of V2O5 powder in a planetary mill in the presence of ethanol are presented. Ball milled V2O5 samples were studied by means of IR spectroscopy and XRD analysis. The morphology of nanotubes is investigated by means of scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and the microstructure by means of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The length of nanotubes is comparable with that of crystals of an initial V2O5 powder, and they have a scroll-like structure of layers. The formation of V-containing monolayers, scrolling of which leads to the formation of V2O5 nanotubes, most likely proceeds due to a plastic deformation of the V2O5 crystal lattice. The intercalation of alcohol molecules (or products of its destruction) into the interplanar space of the V2O5 crystal lattice facilitates the crystal cleavage. It is proposed for the first time to name the nanosized objects with properties depending on their size and morphology as "nanochemical". They are essentially the main subject of the nanochemistry as a branch of science.
